Data backup is always a necessary process for any small, medium or large company. There are many solutions for this process which can be more or less convenient. But what about the casual user? Should he not take care of his data? In general for the casual user a backup software is enough to solve most of the data recovering needs from a personal computer. In case you want to start using this type of software, Genie Timeline is an entry level easy-to-use backup tool, which will offer all the basic backup needs for free.

Genie Timeline offers the easiest way to complete a backup process in just two steps. First you have to choose the local drive where you will backup any of your files, than choose the type of files. The speed of the process depends on your hardware configuration, but in general it performs fast enough. Although you can see the backup timeline, the restoration process is almost non-existent in the free edition of the software. You can only view the location of the saved files and in case you know their previously location you can copy them back. No automated files' restoration available. In case you want a recovery startup disk, or other advanced settings you have to buy the professional license.

Genie Timeline has an additional iPhone/iPod application from where you can monitor and schedule any of the backup processes. In case you want to see a detailed backup overview, an HTML report can be accessed locally directly from the application. A search backup option is also available from where you can find data that is already saved. For example you want to search for some saved pictures, with the backup search you can find them and restore them. Again the restore process will be manually. Genie Timeline is definitely not the best solution for backup files but is ideal for casual users that want to save their media, email details and other office documents in a safe place.
